L'Ensemble Aromates - Jardin de Myrtes - Melodies andalouses du Moyen-Orient.nfo
GENERAL INFORMATION
=====================
Year: 2005
Genre: New Age / Folk, World, & Country / Andalusian Classical
DESCRIPTION
==================
When you hear that this is Arab-Andalusian (Spanish) music played on traditional instruments, you might think that it's probably only interesting from an ethnic musicology standpoint. You would be so, so wrong.
I'm no expert in Arab-Andalusian music, but this does sound pretty authentic to me as far as that goes. However, the sophisticated arrangements are written to appeal to a modern ear, and the result is absolutely sublime. The intensity and restrained passion makes this more than just pretty background music, and you will find yourself actively listening and becoming involved with the music. It's contemplative and Rumi-esque, but it also has a very romantic feeling to it, without being too 'sweet.' It would be great for a romantic evening, a special dinner party, relaxing in the bath or just for listening to while reading a book.
The musicianship on this CD is very impressive, and it is all instrumental, no vocals. I received this as a gift, and wasn't in the appropriate mood the first time I listened to it and so I set it aside for a while. Huge mistake. The next time I put it on, I was working at my computer on a project that required some degree of concentration, and it was just right. Except that I would find myself occasionally gazing off into the distance, day dreaming about warm Mediterranean breezes and a private garden oasis... - djean on April 13, 2008
