DESCRIPTION
==================
Evan Bartholomew aka Bluetech is a diverse musician, having done several downtempo/dub releases under the Bluetech umbrella, and more atmospheric or ambient music under his own name. With the latest Dreaming into Being, we have what sounds like a marriage of the two styles. This almost like Carbon Based Lifeform's "Twenty Three" moment, but there are some beats and rhythms, though used periodically with some tracks just long, slow washes of bliss- think the music that accompanied moments in the movie Dredd, when people took a drug that slowed down the brain's perception of time. These super slow pulses where everything and nothing seem to collide into stillness are simply beautiful.
Bluetech does ambient with as much skill as his dub, which anyone who's reading this will likely know already. With ambient of course it's just as much what you leave out as "where you go" with the sounds, but it takes a skilled ear to know the right combination and level of restraint without being too monotonous.
The rhythmic sections of the album are just enough engaging without being overly foreground. Much of this part sounds like this could have easily come from the Ultimate label with the likes of Aes Dana, the aforementioned Carbon Based Lifeforms and so on- it's rhythm and occasional beats but more like "psybient" than dub paced.
One track has a dark and mysterious but steady drive to it, it actually reminds me of music to one of those dark crime scene tv shows, but in a good way. I just tend to think of the mood and lighting those shows convey along with the music, more than any other part of its content. Anyway with the latest bluetech, expect a nice trippy ride as usual, but this is an elevated and refined trip... enjoy and keep your ears open but don't try too hard! - MidLifeStasis on January 6, 2014
