Bernd Kistenmacher - Live & Studio Tapes 92.txt
GENERAL INFORMATION
=====================
Album: Live + Studio Tapes '92
Artist: Bernd Kistenmacher
Year: 1992 (this is the 1997 reissue)
Genre: New Age / Electronic / Berlin-School / Ambient
DESCRIPTION
==================
This is an incredible mixture of one-half live album and one-half studio work capturing Bernd at his best. The live portions are two long pieces. One was recorded at the Wellenformen festival in Germany on March 5, 1992, and the other in the Festival Vlaandern in Belgium on June 27. The four pieces on this new CD encompass a whole range of styles from symphonic to ethnic, from minimal to ethereal. This is a very original collection of sonic explorations. My favorite track, "Encore at the Lake," is a spectacularly diverse work. This song gradually unfolds, creating a delicate cloud of harmonies that float above the sparse bed of layered synths. Hypnotic sequences gurgle just beneath the surface. One of the highlights is one of the studio cuts: "Just an Idea Pt. 2". It is twenty minutes of inspired composition. Bernd makes imaginative use of synth timbres and textures and creates an ingenious interplay of musical elements. One remarkable aspect of this album is the fact that it's hard to distinguish the live cuts from the studio ones. Bernd has proven himself as capable of communicating his compositions to a live audience as he does in the recording studio. After six releases, Bernd has become one of the leading successors of the Berlin School of Schulze, Tangerine Dream, and Ash Ra Tempel. Totally enjoyable music. highly recommend it. Available from Eurock.
