A Little Town So. Of Bakersfield 00 Notes.txt
This 1988 compilation album from So. Calif. area musicians was designed to
be a showcase for up & coming talent though it did include Billy Swan who'd
had a hit or 2 in the 70s. Dwight Yoakam and Rosie Flores were signed to
major labels and Dwight in particular had hit pretty big in 1986 (when Vol.
1 was issued.) To me, Vol. 2 was highlighted by Lucinda Williams but Candye
Kane, Jann Brown and Jim Lauderdale also appeared on this album and later
enjoyed some success.
I found this album as a promo in Rockaway Records in L.A. The cover has a
large punched hole in it. I was able to hide the hole using Photoshop for
all but the front cover and some text in Katy Moffat's song credits. The
cover was printed as a 3-panel/front & back fold-out and you shouldn't have
any problem figuring out what goes where... Hint: the color printed parts
are on one side while the song credits are on the other...
The fun part about any of these various artists compilations is finding
rare songs from artists that you may be a fan of that aren't included on
any of their own albums.
