More of a trip down memory lane than anything else, One is the long-awaited
reunion album by George Jones and Tammy Wynette, their first in 15 years.
It's a pleasant listen, with both George and Tammy in fine voice. The problem
is that much of the material is often indifferent -- there are a few fine songs,
particularly the title track and a lament about modern country radio called
"They're Playing Our Song," but many of the songs fail to make an impression
either way. The main pleasure of the record is hearing George and Tammy together
again after all these years, but if One is judged by their previous efforts,
it looks rather thin.
