That's a reasonable assumption (the crew, not Coppola), but I doubt that
you'll find a definitive answer. For starters, porn "release dates" are
notoriously unreliable. I'd need to see something more concrete (a
newspaper ad, a cinematreasures sighting) before I'd believe 1977.
Check the last of these links, in particular, for an overview of how
long ANow's gestation was. Not to mention Hollywood's abiding
fascination with Conrad's "Heart of Darkness" since c1902.
