While the majority of this Blaxploitation set is a combination of
looking back at the difficulties and realities associated with
reaching the black audience as well as pushing the black talent of the
time beyond the standard mainstream, (no Oscar nominations for black
back then either), there are a few films that I honestly believe are
worth a look. Cooley High is one those of films. In many respects it
reflected both the differences of growing up black in urban centres
but also demonstrated the many similarities that teenager would
experience regardless of their colour. The film has been considered
the "Black American Graffiti" and having watched it on its original
release run I heartily agree. Sure it has dated but still worth the
watch.
