While pushing the Blaxploitation theme Abduction was sourced from a
novel titled Black Abductor written in 1972 depicting the kidnapping
of the daughter from a wealthy family led by a black revolutionary.
The parallels to the Patty Hearst kidnapping were staggering so much
to the point that the FBI investigated the writer who had literally
simply intended to write a piece of Blaxploitation erotica.
- the victim was named Patricia both in reality and film.
- the victim came from wealth.
- the victim was sexually abused both in reality and film.
- the leader of the guerilla group was black in both.
Ultimately what saved the film from all sorts of grief did come from
the fact that it was based on the book and despite the errie
coincidences the film could claim that the story was not about Patty
Hearst.
