Definitlely not sleaze but without question part of the Blaxploitation
genre in that what was considered a 'little movie' about a black
teacher gaining the enthusiasm of a troublesome youth in a lower
working class segment of London surprised the movie industry. On one
hand the To Sir with Love as a single provided Lulu with a number one
hit on the US Billboard hit list but on the other it also starred
Sydney Poitier. Given the success of three following films it was
very clear that a black man could in fact be a viable lead in a
Hollywood feature film.
