When it comes to art and creating, there's always a certain amount of
jealousy and envy on the part of the viewer. Not many are able to self
check themselves and ask, "Why am I reacting so inappropriately to
this other person's creation? What is it about it that causes me to
want to attack them personally or their work?"
For example: I don't like cauliflower. But I know that many people
do. When I see someone eating it or when I read or hear someone saying
how good it is or tasty it is, I don't feel the need to disagree or
insult the person for saying it. I understand that people have
different tastes and desires. This is a normal reaction.
But if I were to react violently to the other person's opinion and
feel the need to insult them or inject my opinion, it would indicate a
flaw with in me most likely arising out of jealousy or envy. Perhaps I
am envious of that person's enjoyment or perhaps I secretly like
cauliflower but some past event or trauma prevents me from fully
accepting this fact.
The same holds true for art. Whether it's music or painting or
photography. There are all sorts of it in different styles and moods.
Not everyone likes the same thing. If you find yourself reacting
violently to someone's art and wishing death upon them, it's most
likely that you have a screw loose.
