1809 and sung at soldiers' funerals and still sung to this day within
the German armed forces. Scattered field dressings by his boots
indicate the efforts made to save a Kamerad ... dran sein (his time is
up). A group of 389. lnfanterie-Division troops await word to move
out. By late September the 6. Armee had lost 7,700 soldiers killed and
31,000 wounded.
Ten-percent of von Paulus's army had been lost, and still he was
nowhere closer to clearing the city. The worst was still to come, the
struggle for the industrial district.
