Here a medic gives a soldier first aid treatment and after bandaging
his upper left arm he assists by carefully helping with his tunic. By
early November casualty rates in and around Stalingrad had risen
dramatically. It had been estimated that more than 50,000 German
soldiers had been injured in action and only a limited amount were fit
enough to return for front line.
Taking photos of the death of Sixth Army were several teams of PK
cameramen who were assigned to certain combat units. Almost without
exception they would share the same fate as the units they were
assigned to.
Possibly hidden deep in Russian military archives are the photos they
took of Sixth Army's death- sitting in dust covered boxes waiting to
be discovered.
