In the suburbs of Stalingrad, German troops examine a captured
Katyusha multiple rocket launcher platform. The Katyusha was designed
to fire 42.5kg (93.6Ib) rockets into German-held positions. It was not
a precision weapon, but precision was not really necessary when a
battery of rocket launchers were able to drop more than 2,400kg
(5,280lb) of explosive shrapnel onto the target.
