Panzergrenadiers from Paulus's 6th Army have hitched a lift on board
two Pz.Kpfw.III' s. Carrying troops like this was one of the quickest
methods to reach the forward edge of the battlefield. When they
debussed to go into action, they would help support the armoured
spearheads. Although Panzergrenadiers sustained high losses in this
way, they could remain very
effective, protecting the flanks and keeping open a path for the
armour to pour through.This photo was probably taken on western Don
