A halftrack with a full complement of crew move along a congested road
bound for the Don and Volga Rivers. The troops were unaware of what
would greet them once they arrived. They had been given orders to
advance east to a city called Stalingrad, which was a major industrial
and transportation centre on the west bank of the wide Volga river,
the main waterway of inner Russia.
As per date these troops would have been entering the Great Don Bend
south of Serafimowitsch and capturing Bobovskaya on the upper Chir
with ultimate destination of capturing the Soviet bridgehead at Kalach
held by Soviet 62nd Army.
