Nice try-but no cigar. (as I'm sure you noticed) It's either a bug in
Agent, which I doubt, or I screwed up the settings somewhere-what I
think I'll try is to uninstall Agent, reinstall and use the basic
default settings and see what happens.
In any case I appreciate the effort and I'll let you know what
happens.

Here is the resolution to your problem.  Locate your agent.ini file.
Open it with a text editor and search for the "ReplyPrefixes="

Additionally, in your menu go to Tools->Options->Posting
Messages->Personas->Erinnerungen, select edit and remove "re:" from
the reply to address for Usenet messages.

Below is the reference from the Agent help file:
ReplyPrefixes=re

This is a list of all reply prefixes that Agent will recognize. Agent
uses these prefixes when processing the subject of messages. All
prefixes you enter should be separated by either a space or comma. By
convention, most people use "Re:" to signify a reply. However, some
people use language-specific prefixes other than Re:, such as the
German prefix "AN:". (Note: Entries can be either upper or
lower-case letters. Agent ignores case when matching the prefixes.)

I erred above.  You want to remove the custom newsgroup field setting
you established previously.
