A Feldgendarmerie Unteroffizier guards Soviet prisoners, some of whom
are women. Contrary to popular conception, there were no all-female
ground combat units. Women served as snipers, there were some female
antiaircraft units, and a few individuals actually fought attached to
ground combat units, but there were no female infantry units. Women
mainly performed medical duties, served as signalers, traffic
controllers, and in administrative positions.
