Never a big Johnny Carson fan myself, I hafta agree with you, the
current crop of so-called talk show hosts at night come up short
compared to Carson.

You never knew where Johnny stood on politics, for example, while this
group of nuts shove it in your face every night? Why is that
necessary?

Ditto the Oscar nominations! No host? That's because there are no
more Bob Hope's who can joke without getting in the gutter.
