They're still pretty rare, but I've seen several WebP/CBT archives. I
get WebP for the image compression/filesize savings (even though the
format is less supported). But TAR strikes me as an extremely poor
choice for archiving as it has no checksums to use for automated
testing for corruption. I assume the unique file extension is at least
part of the decision.
Anyone familiar with the distributon scene have any insight? What am I missing?
