If the helmet save pilots lives, aircraft and increases effectiveness
of the fighter, I am all for it.
As for the canopy, I suspect the canopies could be enlarged slightly
without impact on the performance of the aircraft OR, they could just
recruit shorter pilots. Doesn't sound like an insurmountable problem.
We have already dumped a ton of money into this beast, best to not
toss out the baby with the bath water, huh?
