One is subsonic, the other supersonic, one is 10,000lbs. empty the
other is 30,000lbs. empty, etc. The F-4E with wings slats was
remarkably maneuverable but it could not out-turn the Fokker Dr.I.
Both the A-4 and F-4 had their strengths and shortcomings hence the
advent of the F-14, F-15, F-16 and F/A-18.
Remarkably, the Greeks and Turks still fly the F-4E with upgraded
avionics and radar and they perform impressively.
