Thats why they quit painting them, until late in the war when they
painted the "black bottoms" to keep the search lights off them.
Gen LeMay also had the ammo for the turrets and the armour plate and glass
removed to take off weight. and to keep the gunners from shooting their own
planes on night raids. because of the weight and they considered Japanese
night fighters non-existent or useless.
( only the tail guns was supposed to have ammo)
