If my memory serves me right, at one time this was the county seat., & like
you said was constantly flooded by the Ohio River. Some friends and I were
fishing the Ohio River at flood time & I barely got out in time. I had water
up to the top of my bumper on a 1978 Chevrolet 9 passenger van. We did visit
Shawneetown on Saturday night at a place called the Levee. The floor in the
bar was plywood & the sheets were warped from past flooding. That didn't
stop the local gals from dancing though :-) The bouncer would talk the
drunks outside & kick them into the street. The curbs on the streets were
about 2 1/2 - 3 ft. high. We got involved with some of the local gals & at
the end of the night were confronted by a large group of the local boys &
asked not very politely to leave & don't return. Quite a place. John
