Hi Bob,
A good website to visit is:
http://www.binaries4all.com/
When you get there read your way through the instructions provided
in the 'Posting' section. (The site also runs a forum so if you get
stuck you can always post to the forum where you might get answers
to questions you have.)
In case you are not sure what Atman is referring to when he says he
uses 'Stunnel' on open networks he likely means that when he is
posting (and he isn't doing so via a secure proxy server - commonly
known as a VPN) he connects to the usenet server's SSL port and so
his post content is encrypted between his machine and the usenet
server. It is Stunnel that enables 'Power-Post A&A' to do an SSL
connection to the usenet server's SSL port. Stunnel just sits in the
middle - so you do your post to Stunnel, Stunnel encrypts the post
and then sends it on to your usenet server's secure (encrypted)
port. (You can also use Stunnel with 'Camel System Power Post' to do
this.) Doing this means that your ISP can't see the *unencrypted
content* of the upload stream (because it is encrypted - all your
ISP could see would be encrypted data). However, your ISP would be
able to log that you are uploading to a usenet server because your
ISP has to know *where* to send the data stream too.
When Atman says that he only uses moderate bandwidth utilization he
is likely referring to that if you really push your upload speed to
the limit then you risk having a lot of 'incompletes' in the post -
which, of course, you would have to correct once the post was
finished. So moderate upload speed helps prevent this and in the
longer run probably saves you lots of time repairing a messed up
post.
If you are just doing test posts then send them to
alt.binaries.test. This saves cluttering up groups with 'rubbish'
while you do your tests.
