Welcome back to the DS Archives with Volume 32 and the audience capture of the legendary East Berlin Tunnel Of Love tour show. Well known from broadcast and TV video that has circulated for the last 30 years I believe this is the first time a version of audience capture has been torrented (as always this comes with the caveat I could be mistaken).
The "complete" audience tape is incomplete, the taper captures everything through "Hungry Heart" and the balance is patched with the broadcast tape.
Quality is quite good for the first set and through much of the second, though it does get progressively worse and by "Hungry Heart" is a bit of a mess. It is also heavy on the audience noise, not you're normal whistles and screams but a steady stream of talking from what sounds like at times...everyone. I have made a valiant effort to clean up and extract as much of this chit chat as possible and it is much improved but you could spend the next six months working on it and still not get it all. With the broadcast version available, I took out the loudest most obnoxious portions and did as much as I could without ending up in a mental facility.
A lot has been written about this show and I won't go into the politics and propaganda around it that besides one short comment before "Chimes Of Freedom" Bruce smartly stayed away from, you can find plenty on line for that with a simple google search.
Did Bruce have a hand in brining down the Berlin wall that came down less than 16 months later, I'll smarter people than me be the judge of that but, suffice it to say...it's a helluva show and has one of my favorite versions of "Born In The USA" even though it's not as powerful on the audience tape as the broadcast version.
This new from the audience perspective, though noisy at times, is a historical document that should be out in its entirety...I would love to find the master.
Thanks to the usual suspects, you know them well by now...IvannF, EarlMv, Oats1jvo and Butterking, none of this could happen without each and every one of these folks.
The biggest thanks go to Dan for making his archives available for us all to enjoy...
