Very curious, indeed. I've been using such NZB search engines for
quite a number of years and never gotten a virus, (and NEVER download
those 7 element zip files you might run across) nor more than one or
two incomplete files; nearly all of which could be repaired with the
included PAR's. And I'm talking about files up to six years old.
Now, as a Giganews user, I can vouch for their retention leaving much
to be desired, but used in conjunction with a block account, from a
service such as Blocknews, you ought to have no problem getting near
everything going clear back to 2009, with nearly NO broken files.
Block accounts are very reasonable for filling dropped segments and
are a godsend to users of services such as Giga.
The modest cost of the fill service will eliminate 99.9% of your older
download headaches.
