Yeah, that can happen sometimes with slower sites. If possible, you could
try writing a simple script/batch/command file to download at times when
the server might be less busy.
I'd suggest wget for the job, if you have a direct link. Something like:
wget 'http://link to file goes here/'
Then schedule the command file to late night, early morning, or
something. Chances are, that wget will work better than your browser (no
GUI overhead), if that's what you tried, so you could use it manually
first and see what happens.
wget is "da shit" when downloading files from the web. On GNU/Linux it's
pre-installed (usually), on that Redmond system, you have to google for
it, or try and learn that so-called "power shell". M$'s vocabulary
resembles that what a colleague of mine used to say: "Sounds mighty big
when the house cat shits, but the result is rather disappointing."
I tried that beast at work (not the cat, mind you), gave up after an
hour's work trying to figure out the mile long commands and options to
its "wget" command (which I think does something unrelated to downloading
files, although you are supposed to be able to use it the same way).
Anyway, instead I downloaded the real wget, installed it, then done in
less than ten seconds.
The point with that exercise was to script it for automatic download of
stuff we need, and to do so during nights.

Another great find. Thanks. :)
I have usually only used yt or archive.org.
