Yeah, Giganews' retention isn't as great as they advertise. If there
are older posts posts you are interested in, consider getting yourself
a block account as backup. I use Blocknews.net and find their service
excellent. You can get 200gigs of data for less than $22.00, and you
only reduce your 'buy' by the amount of fills you need, ie, the data
dropped by Giga. You'll get what you can from Giga, and your secondary
will kick in only when it appears something is missing.
Unless you download everything in sight, 200G ought to last you the
better part of a year. With it, I'm able to download stuff from as far
back as late 2008, with minimal need for par's to repair the files. If
you plan to do a lot of downloading and see a bunch of stuff from
2009-2012 you're interested in, I highly recommend one of these
secondary services. Saves a lot of requesting for reposts.
If you're using Agent and need help in setting it up to use a second
account, ask and someone will let you know. If you're using something
other than Agent, hopefully another well-versed user will be able to
help out.
