Possibly a firmware upgrade would help. I know this is not a direct
solution, but I highly suggest a dedicated home theatre PC (HTPC).
There are some mini desktop models which are perfect. Combine that
with a lovely Logitech wireless backlit keyboard/touchpad and you've
got the best solution to playing ANYTHING.

Personally, I like "potplayer" for playing media files. Does a good
job of upscaling 480p to 1080p.
