You can get subtitles for lots of movies at opensubtitles. You just download the
subtitle file separately. But you may need to do some editing to align the film
to the subtitle. There are subtitle editors to do this. I use Subtitle Edit
which is quite good (and free): http://download.cnet.com/Subtitle-Edit/3000-2170

It will also, if you can't find English subs, but can find subs in another
language, translate them for you using Google Translate. The results can range
from quite good to comical depending on the source language (Spanish, Portuguese
, Italian and Romanian seem to be the best, it has trouble with French). But
even if they're mediocre, they are usually understandable.
