More than ten years ago, co-worker1 lent co-worker 2 a very special,
much loved holiday TV show she had recorded about 15 years earlier and
loved to watch each holiday season. Co worker 2, after accepting the
tape told me that his VCR had recently died and he wasn't sure when
he'd get around to seeing it. I had an older VCR lying around unused,
so I told him he could have it. It worked perfectly. He took it home,
hooked it up, put the tape in... and the VCR mangled the tape so badly
it had to be cut out of the machine in small pieces. Rather callously
I think, he threw the tape out, and told CW 1 what had happened when
he returned to work.
She was not only upset at the destruction of the show, but angry that
he had thrown it out without even at least giving her the opportunity
to attempt to make some kind of repair.
She was angry at both of us and wouldn't speak to either of us for a
few weeks.
When she was willing to speak to me again I was able to get some info
from her as to just what the show was. I used the info she gave me to
ransack the internet over the years trying to locate a replacement but
repeatedly came up empty.
Last night I'm certain I came up with exactly what it was. A 1989 hour
long show from a cerain "Light TV." There Really Is A Santa Claus,
from 1989. A ight hearted pseudo documentary about Santa's origins.
Hosted by NBC news personality Jack Perkins and featuring interviews
with Florence Henderson, Mickey Mantle, Loretta Lynn, Stevie Wonder
and others. Scenes supposedly shot at NORAD and various postal
facilities around the world, all documenting Santa and his yearly
ride.
I don't think this was ever commercially released. Does anyone know
where I might be able to get a copy of this? CW 1 retired a few years
ago but I can still locate her and I know she'd be thrilled to have
this on tape (or DVD) again. Much thanks for any input.
