You say you downloaded Quickpar...just out of curiosity, what were you
using when you previously attempted to verify these files? ie, the
application that wasn't working for you?
BTW, Quickpar is useful not just for renaming these unusual files, but
also validating that all parts of the upload have been downloaded,
reporting how many pieces may be missing and therefore how many extra
Par's you'll need to fill and repair the damage. The vast majority of
recent uploads should be fully intact when you download, but some
older posts may have pieces missing when drips and dribbles get erased
from your Usenet service provider's servers. A reliable uploader will
normally provide a sufficient number of pars to correct any reasonable
damage. Tho with some really old uploads, there may be so much damage
over time that you're just out of luck.
