It's a Matroska video, one of the current standard, and widely used,
video formats and has been for the past several years. It won't run on
Microsoft's 'bargain basement' Windows Media Player, but can be played
on the VLC player, which is a freebee, and available for both Windows
and Mac from www.videolan.org. VLC is considered the 'flagship' media
player at the moment, in that it plays nearly everything.

In addition, if you have a BluRay player, there's a good chance you
can play it directly from either a finalized DVD or from a flashmemory
device. Not all BluRay players play media files, but a good many of
them do. If you're in the market for a BluRay, keep this feature in
mind, as it will let you play your media files downloaded from Usenet
directly on your television, which is  a lot more convenient than
sitting in front of your monitor. Even easier than streaming.
