this is a good one - for years all i had seen was my pan and scan 16mm
138min print - dubbed in English. went out and bought this one as soon
as they put it back to 4 hours with subtitles. Visconti did make some
long movies. there was a good deal of interest in the mad king about
this time - there was another real odd production - looked more like a
minutes of my life I'd like to buy back. - There are probably a dozen
films about old Ludwig II - going back as far as the 1920s. But
Visconti's is my vote for the best of them. Oddly I took a tour of
Ludwig's castle in early 1972 - and its clearly something out of a
course Romy Schneider. Only Visconti could have gotten her to play
Sissi for a 4th time (it took years to overcome the popularity of
those films) - sorry - i do go on don't I - enough from me - thanks
for posting this.
