HELP WANTED
Labor shortages are threatening to disrupt Japan's
fragile recovery. The situation is especially serious in
the food-service industry. Restaurant chains are closing
outlets because they can't find enough staff. Desperate to
hold on to workers, many companies are promoting contract
staff to regular employee status.
Takuji Okubo, Chief Economist at Macro Advisors Japan,
