JAPANESE HOSTAGE-TAKERS CHANGE DEMANDS
Militants believed to be with the Islamic State
group posted 2 videos showing a man believed to be one of
their hostages, journalist Kenji Goto. The first said
that another Japanese hostage, Haruna Yukawa, had been
killed. And it changed the terms for Goto's release from
a ransom to the release of an Iraqi woman sentenced to
death in Jordan. A second video, on Tuesday, said Goto
had just 24 hours left to live.
PROPAGANDA ART STANDS OUT IN VIETNAM
Propaganda art, portraying fearless soldiers and
energetic farmers, can be seen all around the streets of
Vietnam. Nowadays, nearly 30 years after the start of the
Doi Moi economic development policy, the posters compete
for attention with flashy corporate advertisements.
Veteran propaganda artists are proud of their creations,
but younger people are developing a different
relationship with this combination of artistry and
political promotion.
