Are the files "broken", or does your current Usenet provider have a
short retention period?

Have you considered subscribing to a block account to supplement your
current news service, to fill in missing data?

I use Blocknews.net to supplement my Giganews account (which has
substantial droppage of files uploaded in the 2009-2010 date range),
and by using Blocknews for fills, I can usually get complete
downloads, requiring only a minimum, if any, usage of PAR's, of files
going back to late 2008.

Blocknews currently charges less than $15.00 for 100GB of download,
(less than $22.00 for 200GB) which you only deplete when picking up
the missing pieces, not the entire file.

Some posters may not mind reuploading series, but many will encourage
you to beef up your downloading capabilities before they invest their
time and bandwidth uploading an otherwise available series a second
time.
