Re Stabat Mater - Phinney.txt
My good man Phinney,
.. hmm .. my huge COMPLIMENTS for posting this timely latest CD featuring the wonderful Stabat Mater by the great Vivaldi and .. well .. what an ALTO voice to sing it to us ..?
I listened to so much Vivaldi this past Eastertime and even though it was mainly Counter Tenor stuff this little gem takes the biscuit : )) (you do throw these gems at us from time to time)
During the almost six years of downloading EVERYTHING that ever appeared over in the original Treblevoices group .. I have also downloaded almost all from the general classical music group as well. Now and again (over the years) some real gems appear even though NOT Treble voices but professional adult singers, sometimes the sound is so pleasing and often with the correct Period instruments too. Of course, I am referring to music of the beloved Baroque Period in our history mainly and possibly also some Romantic works and 20th Century pieces. I am not such a fan of many women singing music written for all male choir but there are some women who seem to "trick me" - they do sound really good actually sometimes. (Emma Kirkby and recent Ladies singing in Trinity College Cambridge Choir par example)
Naturally, the Requiems out there, vast and many, are mostly performed with women soloists and I am warming to this culture. At last more and more records are being re-released on CD as the recording companies reallise the true attraction of choral music, choirs and indeed Trebles. I am too pleased that new music is being discovered from within Bohemian Europe (eg: carlos_mena_philippe_pierlot-stabat_mater) which sound Magnificent as well.
Again my thanks
