In this unique retelling of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, we look in
on Benedict Slade, a heartless finance company president in Depression-Era
New England. He shatters the Christmas hops of his debtors by mercilessly
repossessing their most prized goods - and then fires his faithful assistant,
Thatcher, on Christmas Eve.
Alone in his apartment, the selfish Slade is visited by three ghosts
--Christmas Past, Present and Future-- who take him on a late-night journey
and reveal the bitter truths of his life to teach him the true meaning of
Christmas.
This wonderful tale of a 20th-Century Scrooge is a moving and heartfelt
adaptation that brings new life to a treasured holiday classic.

While not big on Cuties (as nearly none of the adaptations of Dickens'
classic are, being focused on Ebenezer Scrooge), and featuring at times (to
my mind, anyway) a cringe-worthy performance by Henry Winkler, I nonetheless
greatly enjoy this little all-but-forgotten film from 1979. I've watched it
probably ten times or more, and it's firmly on my yearly Holiday Watch List,
now.
It's another of those movies that acutely makes me feel the cold temperatures
portrayed in the story. I'm sure Henry Winkler would like to think that is
the result of his portrayal of icy-hearted Benedict Slade, but...
The reason I've never shared this before is that until obtaining this Blu-
Ray, all I've had were less-than-stellar TV- and DVD-Rips, and I thought it
deserved better than that...
