Hi there.  I'm curious about why some messages are posted with random
letters and numbers for the subject of the post?

I've tried to figure this out for myself but can't seem to get very
far.  Does it have something to do with avoiding copyright issues and
that sort of thing, and if so, how is one supposed to tell what the
contents of the post are supposed to be?

I've been trying to understand about this for quite a while since I've
seen these kinds of things in newsgroups.

another curious thing is that sites like easynews, if I do a search on
the web for something specific, it shows me a readable subject but if
I click on the respective group, I see these same random text strings
for the subject of messages.  They, of course, won't help me
understand this as they say I'm trying to download copyrighted
material.

Thanks for your help.
