Have a listen to my posting, and then another poster's.
Keep in mind that you may need to reduce the volume of other postings
for a fair comparison, as I encode closer to the MPEG working group
reference level, so the psychoacoustic model can work correctly to dedicate
bitrate to audio which can be perceived.
This show in particular had audio deficiencies from the way it was
mic'd. Just like Photoshop can sharpen a blurry photo and remove
dust and noise, I can use the same artistic power to bring the
perceived audio quality of a recording closer to a reference standard
for audio recording or the normal sound profile of a Stern show.
