Retention per se is not the problem with Giganews.
The problem is that if a group was not heavily active around 8 Aug 2008 or
the group was created after that, then Giganews expires 1 article for every
~200 new ones posted. It is a flaw they have refused to fix.
This group was idle at that time.
Earlier posts in those groups have to be filled from Astraweb, assuming
they had the group from the beginning. (But AW's main retention is only to
11 Sep 2008.)
