>can you say ROCKHOUND?

I remember Rockhound very well, as well as KLined. Both posted an
outstanding collection of non-fiction material, once upon a time. I
know Rocky was nabbed by the copyright lawyers; don't know what
happened to KLined.

But the point made by Barack was indeed valid. When the original
commenter asked about the status of posting, the respondant made a
reply that suggested "Well, YOU start posting, if you have a complaint
about few new uploads." So Barack replied as if to say "If it's so
easy to find hundreds and thousands of books...especially thousands of
new books which haven't been uploaded in the past seven or eight
years...why don't you get them yourself and post them for us, Mr
Know-It-All.?" , ie 'People who live in glass houses' etc etc etc.

I've seen this kind of reply in several dying newsgroups, where
someone asks about the dearth of new uploads and the disappearance of
formerly regular posters, only to get smacked with an apparantly
arrogant "What's your problem, bud? You aint postin', so get your ass
in gear and post something yourself if you don't like the status quo."
And this generally coming from someone who's never posted anything
himself, either. Most probably wouldn't mind that kind of response
from someone who's done his share of posting in the past; but most of
the smart-ass replies come from people who haven't uploaded anything
themselves.

Whether it's fear of lawsuits, or just former regulars getting tired
of carrying the majority of the load, or just moving on to other
activities beside Usenet as a hobby, most all of the groups are
experiencing a reduction of uploads in the past year or so. May well
just be that the heyday of Usenet as a source of copyrighted
materials, whether books, music or videos, is drawing to a close. But
it was fun while it lasted.
