One of the big reasons I got into roleplaying games - and Dungeons in
Dragons in particular - was because of my love of maps. I liked
looking at them, following them, even drawing them. When I laid down
my hard-earned cash for a new accessory, I was really just paying for
the maps; everything else was just extraneous fluff to justify the
cost of those charts.
And Dungeons & Dragons - especially Advanced Dungeons and Dragons (1st
and 2nd Edition) had the best maps. Printed in full-color and
poster-sized, they were well-detailed but accessible, rugged yet
beautiful. They covered the walls of my room.
I still own most of my AD&D maps and accessories but these days it's
just easier to look at the books in electronic form (far more portable
too). Unfortunately, the maps in the available PDFs are usually
quartered into 8.5"x11" chunks; this makes them easy to print but also
makes it hard to visualize the entirety. So - map-lover that I was - I
decided I had better do something about that.
So I started to put all those maps back together, and - in the
interest of posterity - I'm sharing them with the world.
I'll be posting a few maps at a time. In most cases, these are not new
scans (my scanner is way to small to handle these posters and I
certainly am not going to chop apart my hard-copies), merely a
recombination of existing scans. These original scans weren't always
of great quality, often with noticable artifacting, crooked or missing
portions. I've done the best I can to stick 'em back together into a
coherent and good looking whole. Anyway, I mostly appreciate the
effort of the original scanners (there are a few who need to have
their scanners taken away from them though)
No, I will not repost the source material (PDF) these came from.
Hope you guys find these enjoyable and useful.
