John Leslie's "The Chameleon", which many, including this reviewer, consider his masterpiece, begins with a soothing blues ditty by Bill Reid as the credits go up. We then open with a woman named Diana (Tori Welles) talking to her psychiatrist (Richard Pacheco). It appears that she has sexual problems, although they're not what you would probably imagine. It turns out that Diana's a "chameleon". If you don't know what I mean, just read ahead and you soon will.
We then cut into a sizzling sex scene with a woman (April West) taking on two guys (Scott Irish, Axel Horn). After they are finished, the woman goes to the bathroom, where she turns into Diana! She has the ability to change her identities, which she takes to her full advantage. This is much to the chagrin of her boyfriend Marc (Tom Byron), for whom sex is a much more meaningful experience. Not to say that Marc isn't turned on by the whole thing, especially when she turns into the gorgeous Debbie Diamond in an especially hot scene.
One night while at a restaurant with Marc, Diana bumps into a mysterious stranger, played by Buck Adams. The stranger seems to know everything about Diana, even though she is in disguise (as Victoria Paris). He takes her to a party, where a game of poker with "intersting stakes" is being played. The winning male gets to have sex with the winning female. While the winners (Ray Victory, Pamela Rose, Lynn Francis) get it on, so do Buck and Victoria in an extremely passionate scene. Buck gets his traditional cockbite in a way that only Victoria could do. The cutting of two especially charged scenes makes this one of the most erotic segments of the film.
The best and probably most memorable scene, however, is a threesome that takes place in the backroom of the restaurant between Tori Welles, Victoria Paris, and Peter North. The lighting and photography in this scene is especially good and the performers are entirely into it. North drenches Tori in one of his usual full-force cumshots.
This film is a great combination good story and hot sex. The performers all do a wonderful jobs with their roles, especially Tori Welles, who always seem to display something sensual with her eyes, Victoria Paris, and the always great Buck Adams. The ending itself, is a great twist. I will not spoil it for you, since I think this is one porn movie that needs to be viewed until the end.
John Leslie, besides being my favorite adult film actor of all time, is one of my all-time favorite directors. This film ranks among the top (if not the top) of my favorite films of his. This movie was followed by "Chameleons" (but it's not a sequel!), a film that many critics have found better, but I found it to be a stylish film, without much substance. This movie is both: A sizzling sex story with a message. It certainly ranks among the greatest adult films ever made.
