Hi JB,
I should have been more specific: You are using NewsLeecher as a reader, and so
perhaps you are unaware of how your subject headers appear on, say, Agent.
On your last post, 'Les Miserables', all I could read was the first two digits
of the release year, i.e., 19??. Beyond that, everything else ran off my
display. To make matters worse, there is no horizontal scroll on Agent.
So I am unable to discern the part & file numbers.
Criterion is only redundant if just you solo-post to this group. When Lady Love
posts here, she needs to include it since she is also x-posting to other groups.
:NTSC -- the scene rules say that you must state whether your disc is pal or ntsc. I couldn't care less
:about it, but I've had people throwing a hissy fits in front of my very own eyes for not getting one
:version or the other. And again, it's such a pretty word ))
I agree. That is why I include that information in my .NFO. If I post a PAL, I
will always add that information to the subject header, since I expect the
downloaders to know that I post only NTSC 'unless otherwise specified'.
In the case of the Criterion group, NTSC is simply redundant.
:'yEnc' -- I actually thought there was a rule to include that word in every post so that it would be read
:properly by servers. Today I tried to remove it from the subject line -- and voila, the Earth is still
:there and post appear as usual. So thank you for that one. (See? I'm improving myself little by little
:with every single day ).
Well, JB, you are correct! There_IS_a rule that says it should be included, and
it is provided by:
http://www.yenc.org/
When yEnc became a standard in April, 2003 it was intended to supersede
UUEncode, which was prevalent at the time, q.v.,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uuencode
So that Newsreaders would be able to differentiate between the two modes, the
yEnc folks demanded the we posters add the term 'yEnc' to our subject headers.
Fortunately, the newsreader programmers had no intention of relying on us
posters to remember that fact, and so their programs either simply look at the
file to see if it starts with 'yBegin', or if it is 128 Bytes in length.
(Not surprisingly, a yEnc line ends with 'yEnd'!)
The last two programs of which I am aware that looked for yEnc in the subject
header were yProxy & OEyEnc, both of which were add-on's to Outlook Express.
yProxy was fixed long ago, and OEyEnc now has a patch on their web site to treat
all binaries as yEnc.
Besides, how many downloaders are you aware of that get our stuff with Outlook
Express!? (There are many who still use it for MIME, though!)
:Finally, a big thanks for 'Sawdust and Tinsel' (couldn't even type Swedish title here). Patiently
:awaiting the big finale with its upload. Astwaweb is apparently on Italian strike today 'cos it could
:only take 1/3 of my upload capacity. Hence the slowdown.
I hope Astraweb recovers for you. (It always does!)
After 'Wild Strawberries' I have three more for you this week-end.
Thanks for all of those incredible posts!
Isis
