This is the 2nd time I have run into this odd failure in d/l a RARfile.
The first was also on GN, and I believe also an Isis offering.
What happens is that my newsreader stops d/l the file at [66/99], in
this instance, then starts in again creating *another* part11.rar again
and again. Actually, my newsreader exits (out of boundary access) upon
the 2nd attempt and when I restart, it begins with the part11.rar.1
duplicate which of course will eventually die @ the [66/99] point. Again
& again, usw & usw.
Big deal, you say, but due to the huge nature of Isis's RARs that
missing 33/99 of 3.3 million lines will likely NOT be made up by the
puny ParSet she offers. Glancing at the PARs it seems they only add up
to at most 1.0 million lines.
So rather than chase after PARs I tried to access part11.rar thru
AstraNews which is the server on my other DSL line. Sure enough as
probability would have it, the AN file is complete and problem = solved.
I'm posting this to try to find out what anyone knows about this failure
mode and simply to announce the issue should anyone run into it.
Disclosure: I'm on MacOSX using HogWasher (news agent) and MacParDelux
(RAR/PAR prg). I do not believe MacPar can utilize the ancient "built-in
Recovery Record" of RARfiles as WinRAR prg does. At least I've never
observed it doing so, and I run it in 'verbose' mode. I need to contact
the developer here.
