It would be really useful if this list could be fleshed out with
further details to be a real Criterion filmography. As you mentioned,
it would help to know what differentiates one release from another.
For example:
>036 - The Wages of Fear (1953) (1st edition) (OOP)
>036 - The Wages of Fear (1953) (2nd edition) (D1)
>036 - The Wages of Fear (1953) (2nd edition) (D2)
Even a listing like this is troublesome. At first glance it's fairly
easy to determine that a one disc and a two disc version are different
but what about the "Essential Art House" version of the film? Is this
the same as the original one disc version? Is it the one disc version
without any extras? Is it a one disc version of the newer two disc
version without extras?
Shouldn't this filmography include the various "extra" Criterions such
as the Essential Art House discs, the Janus children's discs, or the
Eclipse collections? What about the Home Vision Entertainment
Merchant Ivory Collection? For example, I've got a copy of the 2-disc
Howard's End from this collection and now I see that Criterion is
releasing this in February:
>488 - Howards End (1992)
Is it actually just the same release with a different cover or is it
actually changed in some way?
Also, you might want to update your list to reflect that it's a two
disc release.
It would be great of the members here could help identify version
differences.
