I still have a lot of questions myself about d/l'g BD's -- like
what's the best computer player to use. What programs to use to edit,
compress, and burn, them also.
But from what I'm seeing about BD media prices, it looks like the
cheapest way to store them currently (per BD disc) is just to store
them on 1.0- 1.5 TB drives which works out to about 40 single layer
Blurays or 20 dual layer on a 1TB drive. At appx $100 for the HDD
that works out to $2.50 each for SL--25GB and $5.00 each for DL--50GB.
And use a networked media player device to play them back to the HDTV.
The WD Media Player device is probly the cheapest at about $100
retail. More functional players are available for about $200 or so.
In the meantime just play them on the computer with a computer based
media player or a laptop connected to the HDTV.
(There are USB "toaster" devices for plugging in--pulling out the
bare extra HDD's to the computer for on the fly-- available for less
than $50, instead of limiting to external HDD's)
Single Layer 25GB BD R discs have come down quite a bit over the last
year to about $3 or so for Verbatims, though the rewrite RE discs are
still over $11 each. And DL 50GB discs are still way overpriced at
about $11-20 or more each. So except for good deals on 25GB SL discs
the price per piece can't really come close to storing on HDD at this
point according to my rough calculations. Packs of 25 BD DL discs are
going for over $300
