Jeff, LDs happened way before my time, but from what I've seen Criterion has largely integrated
the content released on LDs into their DVD releases. The latest example, I think, was the release
of 'Repulsion' couple of weeks ago that had commentary by Polanski and Deneuve recorded back in
the LD days.
The commentary for Bond movies turned into a legal trouble for Criterion and soured their
relationship with MGM for years (this is why 'Robocop' was delayed for almost three years). That's
why it was so famous/notorious.
Don't know about any other LDs that have been transferred to DVD. If you look at the Criterion LD
catalog, you can see why: most of this stuff has been released with far superior DVD transfers on
CC or elsewhere:
